Words of Wisdom

Our speech should ENCOURAGE:

Wise words encourage healing
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword:
but the tongue of the wise is health. - Proverbs 12:18

Wise words combat anxiety
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:
but a good word maketh it glad. - Proverbs 12:25

Wise words minister joy
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word
spoken in due season, how good is it! - Proverbs 15:23

Wise words promote peace
A soft answer turneth away wrath:
but grievous words stir up anger. - Proverbs 15:1

Our speech should INSTRUCT:

Wise words bred knowledge
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge:
but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. - Proverbs 15:7

Wise words flow with wisdom
The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom:
but the froward tongue shall be cut out. - Proverbs 10:31

Wise words meet spiritual needs
The lips of the righteous feed many:
but fools die for want of wisdom. - Proverbs 10:21

Wise men say:

A wise person is quick to listen
He that answereth a matter before he heareth it,
it is folly and shame unto him. - Proverbs 18:13

A wise person seeks to understand
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that
his heart may discover itself. - Proverbs 18:2

A wise person ponders how to answer
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer:but the mouth
of the wicked poureth out evil things. - Proverbs 15:28

A wise person doesn't speak hastily
Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words?
There is more hope of a fool than of him. - Proverbs 29:20

A wise person doesn't speak excessively
He that hath knowledge spareth his words:
and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise:
and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man
of understanding. - Proverbs 17:27,28

A wise person doesn't speak unnecessarily
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart
of fools proclaimeth foolishness. - Proverbs 12:23

A wise person is slow to despise others
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour:
but a man of understanding holdeth his peace. - Proverbs 11:12

A wise person is slow to anger
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man
keepeth it in till afterwards. - Proverbs 29:11

Three practical ways to 'Quick to Listen, Slow to Speak, and Slow to Anger':

1. Worship God!
From whence come wars and fightings among you?
come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have,
and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not,
because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss,
that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not
that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the
world is the enemy of God. - James 4:1-4

2. Follow Christ!
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ
also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that ye should follow his steps: - 1 Peter 2:21

3. Fear the Lord!
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom:
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
- Proverbs 9:10
