Seoul BBQ Buffet

Ok, so the Japanese buffet was mediocre

*cough*

Pretty soon it came time again of Vy and myself's regular Perth restaurant visit. "Where shall we go?" pondered us, "how about Korean buffet?" suggested I. Not wanting to risk another night of tummy ache this week, we decided to head to Seoul BBQ where I've previously been to for my b'day dinner.

"I am counting on you that it'll be good" threatened my little uni friend,

Oop.

This is when we have just started cooking :)

BBQ king prawns - reminds me of home sooo much!

Sauces are so important!

me displaying my rare culinary skills, doesn't take a chef to flip prawns around

Steamboat in the making

2 hot plates, 3 gas cans and 6 rounds later...

note to self: bbq'd prawns are hard to peel!

Disgustingly messy table, still bbq-ing... more prawns too~

What's left over of the kimchi steamboat

coconut saigo + fruit drink - my fave

Passion fruit ice cream

self made affogato

the "after" shot.

There you have it, a pictorial description of what 2 girls got up to in a buffet restaurant. We sure put our imaginations as well as creativity to work and made ourselves a kimchi steamboat, bbq dimsims, bbq prawns, bbq fishballs, bbq mussels, bbq squids, bbq everything actually and an affogato.

The waitress and waiter kept asking if we'd like them to bring us more meat and happily cleared our dishes and changed the hot plate. No one gave us dirty looks for having big appetites (or maybe they did just that we were too busy eating to notice) nor took forever to deliver service. Food is fresh (YAY), nicely presented, deliciously marinated.

The only downside is perhaps that the coconut saigo drink is not refilled and coffee is canned instant powder. But then again I'm happy to overlook that as everything else remained consistent since my last visit in April.

At $38 p/h (2 bucks cheaper than Jap), i give it 4.5 prawns out of 5.

Top up the coconut saigo drink!

Oh, my friend and I are on talking terms, hehe :")

Japanese food fright

Lately, I've been buffeting more buffet than buffet ever buffeted. Well, not really. What I meant to say was that I went buffet twice in the last 3 weeks, and interestingly enough, they were complete polar experiences.

The first one was ________, which I will not print.

I don't know if it's fair to go with highish hopes but I suppose at $40 a head, you'd think at least there'd be 1. good variety 2. good food 3. good service. I mean, any boss would feel pretty embarrassed if they were to charge the same amount knowing that people wouldn't be getting value for money eh? Of course, profit oriented bosses would be laughing at my naitivity.

Well, we got food.

and this is a picture of the food.

Looks tasty right? Looks presentable right? Looks nice... right? Although I do not dare claiming myself to be a sushi expert because after all I've only just ate sushi all my life, been to countless sushi places interstate and abroad, tried countless sushi varieties and that my dad makes his own sashimis.

That my friend, were not very nice sushi stuff unfortunately.

I really don't want to be mean but everything was DRY and tasted like they had just DEFROSTED - which is kind of rude. The salads had the old "storage" taste to it and the oil/fat on the beef were solidified. They can blame the ice but should've thought about that before opting for the ice, I just know that my dad wouldn't serve his customers those sort of stuff.

The teppanyaki beef was quite nice - the first one only which comes to the table automatically. When I ordered the second serving it took absolutely FOREVER and came out cold, practically uncooked.

What the.

The teppanyaki beef is capable of being delicious so why's the second one really gross? The only reasons I can think of are 1. time stalling 2. prevent customers from further orders.

Dodgy.

Chicken pieces were cut up to massively abnormally huge pieces and we had to pay extra if we wanted water.

C'mon.

Dessert was carrotty spongy cakeish and lemonish spongy cakeish. Boring. Then the strawberry ice cream cake came out and that eased my pain a little but returned when the waitresses were pretty ignorant and didn't clear the empty plates very often. My friend and I left very early promising each other to never go back again.

Then I went online to get a different opinion and found that it seems reviews from last year were good, this year, not so good. I think I will stick to Matsuiri for sashimis and sushis from now on. Food there for me is authentic (run by actual Japanese) and quality.

A, B, AB, and O little people

"A blood type is a classification of blood based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs)." - (Wikipedia 2008)

I fail to see from the above definition how personality traits can be influenced by different blood types - a huge phenomenon in the Asian culture, most of us are aware of which blood group we belong to. Books and programs such as blood type and diet, blood type and food, blood type and blah blah are available for those who would like the option.

You see, I am a type B, the type that supposedly is the most practical of the blood groups, specialist in what I do. Relaxed, freewheeling and are less than cooperative as I like to follow my own rules and my own ideas. Individualists and pay more attention to thoughts than feelings. Therefore can sometimes seem cold and serious. Just because of my blood, I am also supposedly straight foward, creative, flexible, adaptable and do not dwell over little things. If my blood could talk, I should also become a military leader, hairdresser, talk show host or golfer.

Well, those certainly aren't my career of first choice that's for sure.

As for my two cents, interesting but the correlation should stay within the medical field alone :)

Just for a bit of laugh, below are a couple of cartoon strips that I came across on the world wide web (links are at the bottom of the pictures). Unfortunately the cartoons are not english, english, so put your best imaginations to work!

中華隊 準備好了!

The heats for baseball in the 2008 Beijin Olympics will begin this Wednesday. Chinese Taipei will be up against the Netherlands, guess who will be staying up late to watch the game?

ME!

O Chinese Taipei, the enormous pressure you must be under with all our dreams upon your shoulders. I really truly deeply sincerely wish you guys bring home the Gold, really truly deeply sincerely.

支持中華隊!!

Awaiting Taiwan's national anthem to echo around the stadium,

中華隊, 加油! 加油! 加油!

In less than 30 minutes, the 2008 Olympics will open its grand ceremony in Beijing.

China must be stoked with the number, in fact, I am a little too :)

Today is Father's Day in Taiwan. The number eight (ba) sounds like Daddy (ba4). Happy Father's Day to my one and only daddy, who works so hard to provide for our family. We bought him a bottle of 2000 Reserve collection red wine and a Tommy Hilfiger jumper which he loves :)

Thank you daddy, fu chin jie kuai le :)

Weekend Reflection

First week of uni went past like a tiddling summers rain,
It came fast and went away just as quickly.

Time lapsed quietly but surely while Julia searches for books to buy, goes out for lunch, prepares for Friday night chairing, studies Ecclesiastes and makes insurance claim.

Also this year UWA is given Tier 1 grant by ASIC in the field of Financial Planning.

Praise the Lord! My Father truly knows me best
